DJing with vinyls, CDs, digital files, Ableton patches, modular synths… it’s all good, but I’ve been fascinated by live coding performers since I first bumped into an event organized in Rome by pioneer live coders AlgoRave. It was 2018, or maybe 2016…
I’ve been following many live coding artists since then, and supporting a few buying their production on BandCamp, but I never mixed any live coding production with non-coded music. It seemed a bit wrong to me, for the high respect I have for live coding performers. I wish my Javascript skills were better to give it a try… So I decided to buy some more live coding music on BandCamp and to dedicate a full 1h30m mix to this amazing way of producing music.
Kudos to Switch Angel and DJ_Dave, very popular live coding producers in my Instagram feed. Not only they’re good, they’re also very educational with their live coding video. They tell exactly what they are doing, which lines or code values they’re changing to create specific sounds, and all that while actually coding and playing live. You’re amazing, girls! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Warning: this mix starts pretty euphoric and dance-y, but you’ll soon find yourself immersed in some dark and highly experimental sounds I can still dance to, so why won’t you? Just give it a try!
