This summer I didn’t participate to Burning Man, nor to Nowhere or any of the other regional gathering that, after two years of covid, started popping up again. My last burn has been three years ago, back in the summer of 2019; with the 2020 and 2021 events being canceled for covid, I was really looking forward to spend the best of my summer to Nowhere in the Spanish Monegros desert. I even had the ticket, although overpriced. But I didn’t go. After exactly 20 years of deep commitment to Burning Man, I finally figured out that, while Burning Man and all related gathering and events could be fun, and yet sometimes inspiring, the entire “thing” has lost the status of “transformational platform” that once, back in my days and mostly in Larry Harvey’s days, used to be. So I lost all interest and I didn’t go. Couldn’t resell my ticket, who cares? So this was a burn off for me, even if I was ready for it – including with a bunch of new tracks that I really wanted to play live, but I’m dropping into this mix. This is dedicated to all burners. Burn on, or burn off – whatever suit you best. Just don’t forget to dance. This is the first of my DJ sets at the recent Italian Burning Boots – IBB 2018, a a very nice small scale burners gathering in the woods of Tuscany. The campfire flame in the cover image has not been photoshopped – the flames were actually colourful and psychedelic thanks to a special magic powder I threw in. I haven’t played much live this year, but I’ve been stacking up tons of massive tunes. Last month I figured out that I’ve been listening to plenty of great music that I’ve never shared with anybody else, and what’s worst is that I didn’t even tried to pass it on decks. So I said “Fuck it, let’s empty the summer crates on Traktor and see what happens”. What happened was that the selection alone took almost an entire month… and I ended up with three different mix, even if more than 90% of the tunes didn’t made the selection. Bummer. Anyway, there’s enough music to keep everybody happy: 4 hours of relaxing electronica, 2 hours of uplifting dance music, and further 90 minutes of massive beats – music for all tastes! Since the whole idea started with a “Fuck it” (without the hypocrisy of the asterisks), the decision about the name of this multiple studio DJ set was immediate: introducing Burningmax’s F Trilogy! Take it personally or not, I hope you enjoy it.
