My DJ set for the Burning Man event of Roman Burners in November 2016, an experiment I decided to make because after all, this is what Burning Man is about… I normally play techno and other electronica, from acid house to psychedelic beats, but I’ve never played drum’n’bass before, though I’ve been dancing to a lot of progressive D’n’B back in the ’90s. So I decided to finally drop the bass with the drum, while swinging back and forth from techno during the burn, with a session I like to call “techno’n’drum’burn”. Enjoy the bipolar beats! I haven’t played much live this year, but I’ve been stacking up tons of massive tunes. Last month I figured out that I’ve been listening to plenty of great music that I’ve never shared with anybody else, and what’s worst is that I didn’t even tried to pass it on decks. So I said “Fuck it, let’s empty the summer crates on Traktor and see what happens”. What happened was that the selection alone took almost an entire month… and I ended up with three different mix, even if more than 90% of the tunes didn’t made the selection. Bummer. Anyway, there’s enough music to keep everybody happy: 4 hours of relaxing electronica, 2 hours of uplifting dance music, and further 90 minutes of massive beats – music for all tastes! Since the whole idea started with a “Fuck it” (without the hypocrisy of the asterisks), the decision about the name of this multiple studio DJ set was immediate: introducing Burningmax’s F Trilogy! My three DJ sets at the Barcelona Burning Bash Weekend (also and even better known as BBB) are immediately available online by popular demand. Over the last months, while I have been recording all my DJ sets, I never had the time to actually timecode them, upload them to MixCloud, and create the relative blog posts. But this time here they are, merely one week after the event, and all three of them! So here we go, a deep techno set with some rave, old school moments, one morning dance set for a crowd who still wanted to keep grooving, and a sweet afternoon set in the sun by a pool – all in the same blog post, for faster sharing! One technical note: since we had some problens with acoustics at the main stage of BBB, the sets played there have very little bass – I guess you can fix that manually by pumping the bass up in your device. The poolside set has a more balanced sound, and very chilly dance tunes. Just a week after releasing the LoveHate double DJ session I had the opportunity to perform a double DJ set at the Vienna Burning Ball, the first gathering organized by the Austrian community of burners. Of course I went for a LoveHate Live session, playing half an hour of Love-inspired uplifting groovy tunes at 2-2.30AM, and then kicking in and closing the event with one hour of techno beats with the 4.30-5.30AM Hate-inspired slot. The Vienna Burners managed to sold out their first event packing the central venue Garage X with the Vienna crowd, but also gathering burners from everywhere around Europe – the venue was packed with truly beautiful people. I had a stupid accident the night before flying to Vienna but I decided to travel anyway, so I ended up going to the party and DJing on a wheelchair, while the next day I had to go to the hospital in Vienna. Anyway, I’m glad I went to Vienna – wheelchair and hospital on a side, it’s been a great experience. I loved it, and I hated it. Pretty much like this mix. =) Enjoy the Love. Third mixdeck in the trilogy series I dedicated to the powerful sound of the Barcelona-based independent label Suara Music, and here we go with another cat cover. After the Groovy Wild Catz and the Acid Catz mixdeck, it’s now time to explore the nu-disco and funky soul of Suara, with a selection that I’m sure will make you dance like it’s 1979 – or 1999 – or better said 2013, since the Suara sound it’s always infused with a very contemporary massive bass and techno beat, even when they go disco and funky! With this mixdeck I officially close my trilogy tribute to Suara Music, meaning that starting from the next mix there will be a larger variety of labels included in my mixdecks. But of course I’m now totally hooked with Suara, so you will hear more and more of their sounds, both in my studio mixes and in my live gigs. Yesterday I published a live DJ set that is tied to one of my saddest memories in DJing, but good thing I also have good ones. Like the day that I decided to explore the entire production of Suara Music, a Barcelona-based independent label that is, as they say on their website, “all about music and cats”. As a matter of fact, all the releases artwork of Suara feature a cat, some of them pretty wild – I love it! (Yes, I love cats too). Suara Music is run by Coyu, one of my favorite artists, often featured as producer or remixer on the tracks I play in my mixes and DJ sets – sooner or later I’ll remix one of his tracks, promised! I love the Suara sound, so I decided to pay a tribute to the Barcelona label by playing a full DJset mixing only Suara Music releases. And of course the cover I created for the mix is also pretty “inspired” by Suara records’ artwork. Enjoy! Meuw!
