Introducing my new Burningmax Time Machine project. Starting today I will publish every month a mix that goes back in time. Not so back anyway, I’ll keep it contained to this century. Let’s start with the first instalment in the Burningmax Time Machine series, a mix entirely dedicated to the tunes I loved to play in my DJ sets, and that have been released in 2009, the year that I actually started DJing. Each mix of the Time Machine series is meant to be pretty eclectic, as I create a sound journey that goes through techno, house, drum’n’bass, progressive electronica, psychedelic beats, chill dance, and even ambient, if needed. Just a week after releasing the LoveHate double DJ session I had the opportunity to perform a double DJ set at the Vienna Burning Ball, the first gathering organized by the Austrian community of burners. Of course I went for a LoveHate Live session, playing half an hour of Love-inspired uplifting groovy tunes at 2-2.30AM, and then kicking in and closing the event with one hour of techno beats with the 4.30-5.30AM Hate-inspired slot. The Vienna Burners managed to sold out their first event packing the central venue Garage X with the Vienna crowd, but also gathering burners from everywhere around Europe – the venue was packed with truly beautiful people. I had a stupid accident the night before flying to Vienna but I decided to travel anyway, so I ended up going to the party and DJing on a wheelchair, while the next day I had to go to the hospital in Vienna. Anyway, I’m glad I went to Vienna – wheelchair and hospital on a side, it’s been a great experience. I loved it, and I hated it. Pretty much like this mix. =) Enjoy the Love. Euroburners’ decompression parties are getting better and better. I was expecting the first Belgian Decompression to be a great party, since its organizers were all cool people and nice burners, but I really was surprised to find out that it was a truly jewel of a gathering, a really awesome party with burners friends and family from all over Europe. I played a warm-up DJset at the beginning of the evening, then got I busy with an art installation and enjoyed the rest of the night with friends. I closed the event playing a pretty acid chill down dj set in the downstairs room, where everybody was gathering since it was also the bar area, and I truly enjoyed laying the chilled beats even more than the initial powered up set. And here we go, the set is now finally online, and all yours to enjoy, download and dance! It took me a month to finally be able to publish the recording on my closing DJ set at London Decompression 2012. The reason is that my laptop died just a couple of days after the set, and my poor baby has been in the hospital (Apple assistance) until yesterday! A month and 420 Euro later (hey! 420 again!) I finally got it back. And here we are! The title Casualties on the Dancefloor came up while working on the London Decom playlist. “Really? Am I really going for remixed hardcore punk? Jeeee… I’m gonna make some casualties, this is pretty violent…“, but I decided to go for it anyway! I guess this has been the darkest and most violent sound I played live since I dj – I mean, the hard techno or overnoisy track every now and then or the super acid sets are part of the classic trademark sound of Burningmax live, but this is the first time I do a 1 hour 30 minutes set that can make your ears bleed. And I liked it, and people on the dancefloor too. I underestimated the level of aural resistance of the Decom crowd – they actually loved it and neverfuckingstop danced until the end at 6AM, leaving no casualties on the dancefloor at all! Sweet!
