Playing trance and psy-trance is definitely fun. I still prefer progressive techno, but every time I play trance I definitely feel its power on decks. And on the dancefloor. I have been going to Boom Festival, home to psychedelic and psy-trance culture, for the last three editions. Being the festival a biannual event, I’ve been a “boomer” for the last 6 years, and I feel that it’s about time for a little homage to the Boom community, of both boomers and musicians. We are One. Here are some of my favorite “classic” Boom artists: Zen Mechanics, Loud, Ace Ventura, E-Clip, Avalon, and many others – plus some good recent Goa trance and a couple of progressive trance tunes, all mixed up with some massive pounding hypnotic techno – enough to create a synergy with trance and to make it “smell like Boom spirit”. A little “numerology trick” here, and another homage to last year’s Boom Festival edition. Boom 2016 was all about the numerology of number 3. 33,333 participants tickets, 3,333 admissions to Utopia the after-Boom and, unfortunately, 3 casualties among the participants of the festival. Here we go, the NeverFuckingStop Festival has finally arrived. My burners friends PiouPiou, Cocci and Matilduz have been planning to create a Burning Man-inspired festival for some times, and here it is. In a sunny spring day, at the Parc de la Villette in Paris, we took over My Boat, a club with a terrace and a view on the Parisienne channels, where artists, performers and burners gathered all day and night in a creative environment. And of course we danced. A lot. I played a starting set as Morphinauts, but I also had the pleasure and the honor to play the closing set of the night. I admit, this DJ set has been particularly furious, a true techno rave like I haven’t been playing for a while, after my exploration of the power-house beats from Suara – but I liked it, and everybody has been dancing like it’s Berling circa 1996. My closing DJ set for the Burning Man-inspired Go Animal party at the Ice Cube Club in Zurich. Unfortunately, this is one of my saddest memories in DJing, as it will remind me forever of a very bad discussion I had with my girlfriend right at the end of the DJ set, that ended up in a broke-up – and now I feel so miserable I wish I never been to Zurich to play the gig. The trance-infused techno mix of this DJset is actually pretty awesome, so I hope that at least it will make someone happy – just not me. This is the DJ set I prepared for Fatturato, the afterparty of Venduto at CarnemVale 2013 in Milan – but I didn’t had the chance to play it. The afterparty, organized at the Q21 Club in Milan, was scheduled 6AM-noon, and I was supposed to play my set from 10 to 12. Everything went pretty well from 6 to 9 – the club was nice and so the music, people dancing with a very happy afterparty mood – but at 9AM the organizers told me the club owners wanted to close earlier (at 10AM) so they asked me to rush at the decks and play my set. By the time I got everything set up it was 9.15-9.20 and, after only 10 minutes of djset, while everybody was happy on the dancefloor, the bouncers came up and, in a very rude way, they shut everything off. They said the reason was that the bar was not cashing in, so they decided to send everybody home. Just like this. Whatever – I moved on to my friends’ house and I played my set anyway and we all had fun. This is what you missed, Q21!
