OK, go ahead and tell me that I’m obsessed with Laurent Garnier. Yes I am, he’s really the Master of the dancefloor, no matter the “temporary” dancefloor trends. Also, it’s the spirit of Monsieur Garnier that inspire me, even more than the music itself (that too). Did I tell you that this year I will visit Garnier’s FestivalYEAH! in the South of France, and I have booked two Ableton masterclass sessions with Scan X? =) So guess what’s my new remix about… =) The original track that I have used as a base for this remix is Scalextric, a massive groove by techno killers Pig+Dan, this time partnering with Alberto Ruiz for the job. As soon as I have heard this tune, I have immediately pictured in my mind as a perfect groove base for Laurent Garnier’s 1993 classic Crispy Bacon. A few loop cuts on my Traktor S4 and the new Evercrispy was born! I hope you enjoy it. One note: this is the very first take of my Evercrispy remix. Of course I have tried other versions – one at the original Crispy Bacon’s 130 bpm, another one veeeeery slow at 120 bpm, and several versions at 125, 127 and 128 bpms, all different also in terms of loop jamming. But after the long Evercrispy session, I decided to stick with the very first recording, at 126 bpm. More Amphora DJ sets from Burning Man 2013. This time I had the pleasure and the honor of “opening” for one of my favorite DJ posse on the Playa, Space Cowboys. At their “classic” Wednesday party at the Trash Fence Space Cowboy asked for the collaboration of all the top art cars on the playa – including Amphora of course. More than a dozen sound systems blasting the same music being broadcasted live from Unimog, the mighty sound system art car of the San Francisco DJ collective – and I provided the opening DJ set for the entire trip of Amphora till the party location, making sure to pump it up enough so to get the crowd ready for the all-night party mood. Playing a set at Burning Man is already an amazing experience for a DJ, but being a DJ resident at one of the coolest theme camps with sound system, and with one of the most awesome art cars on the playa, it’s definitely top. Yesterday I published a live DJ set that is tied to one of my saddest memories in DJing, but good thing I also have good ones. Like the day that I decided to explore the entire production of Suara Music, a Barcelona-based independent label that is, as they say on their website, “all about music and cats”. As a matter of fact, all the releases artwork of Suara feature a cat, some of them pretty wild – I love it! (Yes, I love cats too). Suara Music is run by Coyu, one of my favorite artists, often featured as producer or remixer on the tracks I play in my mixes and DJ sets – sooner or later I’ll remix one of his tracks, promised! I love the Suara sound, so I decided to pay a tribute to the Barcelona label by playing a full DJset mixing only Suara Music releases. This studio mix has been recorded while I was following the (shameful) results of the recent Italian political elections 2013. I was pretty angry for the useless vote that resulted in a non-governable country and in a political chaos and more hard times for Italy. Which made me think at my good friend, burner and raver Miss Dusty Purple, who recently added a new ink job to her tattooed body, the awesome statement “Hard Times Require Furious Dancing” – yes, the one I used for the cover art of this mixdeck. Thanks Marghe! Furious Dancing? That was exactly what I needed to forget the elections, so I plugged my headphones and started mixing. This is the result of a very pissed off studio session, so there might be a couple of minor fuck-ups in the mix, but I hope you’ll enjoy it anyway. Remember: hard times? Just dance the worries away. Back to Rumpus, the amazing burlesque, costumed, wild London party organized by some burners friends, which is now considered to be one of the best “indoor festivals” in the UK, compared to “Secret Garden in the city”. After the post-apocalyptic theme of Rumpus 9, this time the party theme was “Pantos vs. Pirates” – of course I enrolled with the pirates, and delivered a “pirate techno set”. I played for just a bit less than one hour as I started late (had tech problems while plugging my gear), but it was enough to take an awesome pirate crowd in a dancefloor bliss state. Welcome to my house. A dreamy, twisted, psychedelic, vintage, uplifting, joyful deep techno house. After all “that noise”, here are 3hrs+ of happy progressive house beats. Sure, I infiltrate everywhere techno, trance and even dubstep, but the overall mood is uplifting and playful, even when it goes into psychedelic sounds. And yes, I dropped a lot of vintage beats, including two or three original tracks from the end of the ’80s and early ’90s. It’s been a lot of fun to mix it all, I hope you’ll have fun dancing to it! I have been inspired to mix deep tech house sounds after following Laurent Garnier in his latest tour, and catching up with gigs and dancing myself to bliss 10 times in one year in Rome, Madrid, Liverpool, Munich, Barcelona and elsewhere, including at festivals like Sonar and the Monegros Desert Festival. I even traveled with friends to Paris for the special night at the Rex Club dedicated by Monsieur Garnier to his fans to celebrate his 25th career anniversary as a dj. It’s been a beautiful epic night, and an amazing party with Laurent Garnier who mixed nonstop for more than 8 hours. That’s my boy.
