I just turned 50 years “young”, so I decided to celebrate by mixing 50 tunes! Well, at the beginning I mixed 66 songs (as for Class of ’66), but the mix was too long, over the 6h30m, and impossible to share it on MixCloud – so I had to “cut it down” to 50 tunes. This is a chillout mix you can dance to, and a dance mix you can chillout to – wherever you spin it, you’ll find yourself venturing often in psychedelic territories, and moving from techno to progressive electronica, to house, dubstep and more unexpected takes. Burningmax Studiomix: Springtime is Coming The mix kicks off with vintage, progressive and blissful beats, to venture into a psychedelic, ecstatic, acid, powerful yet dreamy rollercoaster. A trip to your inner dancefloor. Welcome to Springtime is coming, my first studio mix in 2016 after recovering my Traktor S4 controller from some interventions to the motherboard, kind of open-heart surgery. This mix was a test for the S4, and I have to say that I’m pretty happy, both with the controller’s performance and with the mixing results! I loved this sound so much that I’ve been listening to it on headphone on heavy rotation for the entire weekend. Which is why I also figured out that there is in fact still a little glitch in the controller’s performance, as some of the effects I have used sometimes have kicked in with a little delay – but I guess that it’s just a technicality, and if you just lose it on the dancefloor you won’t even figure out. And yes, you can dance to this mix while you wait for the next season of Game of Thrones to begin! Springtime is coming, be happy and dance! I haven’t played much live this year, but I’ve been stacking up tons of massive tunes. Last month I figured out that I’ve been listening to plenty of great music that I’ve never shared with anybody else, and what’s worst is that I didn’t even tried to pass it on decks. So I said “Fuck it, let’s empty the summer crates on Traktor and see what happens”. What happened was that the selection alone took almost an entire month… and I ended up with three different mix, even if more than 90% of the tunes didn’t made the selection. Bummer. Anyway, there’s enough music to keep everybody happy: 4 hours of relaxing electronica, 2 hours of uplifting dance music, and further 90 minutes of massive beats – music for all tastes! Since the whole idea started with a “Fuck it” (without the hypocrisy of the asterisks), the decision about the name of this multiple studio DJ set was immediate: introducing Burningmax’s F Trilogy! Take it personally or not, I hope you enjoy it. My three DJ sets at the Barcelona Burning Bash Weekend (also and even better known as BBB) are immediately available online by popular demand. Over the last months, while I have been recording all my DJ sets, I never had the time to actually timecode them, upload them to MixCloud, and create the relative blog posts. But this time here they are, merely one week after the event, and all three of them! So here we go, a deep techno set with some rave, old school moments, one morning dance set for a crowd who still wanted to keep grooving, and a sweet afternoon set in the sun by a pool – all in the same blog post, for faster sharing! One technical note: since we had some problens with acoustics at the main stage of BBB, the sets played there have very little bass – I guess you can fix that manually by pumping the bass up in your device. The poolside set has a more balanced sound, and very chilly dance tunes. It has been a while since my last studio mix, and I really wanted to record one today for many reasons: to celebrate the fall equinox, as a warm-up for the upcoming London Decompression 2014, and also because in the last month I bought some really awesome new tunes! The rave tracks in this mix are truly massive, I can’t wait to play them on a powerful sound system. One technical note: I really felt the urge to mix today, but I had no controller and not even an audio card – so no pre-fade listening, and very little control over the loops, mixing straight out of my laptop. Sure, I tagged all the tracks with cue points before starting mixing, but even though it’s been pretty hard, so there are a couple of minor fuckups in the mix: can you spot them? Also, I had an additional handicap: I played with one year only, as I’m suffering from severe otitis since yesterday! The result is awesome anyway, and I consider this to be one of my best mixes of this year – I hope you’ll enjoy it too! Other important note: I figured out that in the file on Mixcloud there are a couple of “glitches”, around 1h27m, and also towards the end of the mix – probably an upload probrem. Burning Night Paris! What an amazing event the French Burners can throw! My fourth time on stage at the Machine du Moline Rouge, the now classic Burning Night Paris venue – this time I played at the “Bar a boules”, a great bar dancefloor on the upper level of the venue, packed with happy people… and I had a very good time! A little behind-the-scene: when I tried to access the DJ booth I hit my head on some sort of metal support that really opened up my head. there was a lot of blood, a bit of panic on my side, but after 15 minutes draining blood in the restrooms, I went back on stage and – even if buzzing, a bit in pain and 15 minutes late – I kicked the shit out of that place with an acid-y session mixing up a few new great tunes with a few classic I knew the dancefloor would have loved. It’s just a 45 minutes session, but it’s gonna make you dance, promised! Just a week after releasing the LoveHate double DJ session I had the opportunity to perform a double DJ set at the Vienna Burning Ball, the first gathering organized by the Austrian community of burners. Of course I went for a LoveHate Live session, playing half an hour of Love-inspired uplifting groovy tunes at 2-2.30AM, and then kicking in and closing the event with one hour of techno beats with the 4.30-5.30AM Hate-inspired slot. The Vienna Burners managed to sold out their first event packing the central venue Garage X with the Vienna crowd, but also gathering burners from everywhere around Europe – the venue was packed with truly beautiful people. I had a stupid accident the night before flying to Vienna but I decided to travel anyway, so I ended up going to the party and DJing on a wheelchair, while the next day I had to go to the hospital in Vienna. Anyway, I’m glad I went to Vienna – wheelchair and hospital on a side, it’s been a great experience. I loved it, and I hated it. Pretty much like this mix. =) Enjoy the Love. More Amphora DJ sets from Burning Man 2013. This time I had the pleasure and the honor of “opening” for one of my favorite DJ posse on the Playa, Space Cowboys. At their “classic” Wednesday party at the Trash Fence Space Cowboy asked for the collaboration of all the top art cars on the playa – including Amphora of course. More than a dozen sound systems blasting the same music being broadcasted live from Unimog, the mighty sound system art car of the San Francisco DJ collective – and I provided the opening DJ set for the entire trip of Amphora till the party location, making sure to pump it up enough so to get the crowd ready for the all-night party mood. Euroburners’ decompression parties are getting better and better. I was expecting the first Belgian Decompression to be a great party, since its organizers were all cool people and nice burners, but I really was surprised to find out that it was a truly jewel of a gathering, a really awesome party with burners friends and family from all over Europe. I played a warm-up DJset at the beginning of the evening, then got I busy with an art installation and enjoyed the rest of the night with friends. I closed the event playing a pretty acid chill down dj set in the downstairs room, where everybody was gathering since it was also the bar area, and I truly enjoyed laying the chilled beats even more than the initial powered up set. And here we go, the set is now finally online, and all yours to enjoy, download and dance! This is the DJ set I prepared for Fatturato, the afterparty of Venduto at CarnemVale 2013 in Milan – but I didn’t had the chance to play it. The afterparty, organized at the Q21 Club in Milan, was scheduled 6AM-noon, and I was supposed to play my set from 10 to 12. Everything went pretty well from 6 to 9 – the club was nice and so the music, people dancing with a very happy afterparty mood – but at 9AM the organizers told me the club owners wanted to close earlier (at 10AM) so they asked me to rush at the decks and play my set. By the time I got everything set up it was 9.15-9.20 and, after only 10 minutes of djset, while everybody was happy on the dancefloor, the bouncers came up and, in a very rude way, they shut everything off. They said the reason was that the bar was not cashing in, so they decided to send everybody home. Just like this. Whatever – I moved on to my friends’ house and I played my set anyway and we all had fun. This is what you missed, Q21! Back to Rumpus, the amazing burlesque, costumed, wild London party organized by some burners friends, which is now considered to be one of the best “indoor festivals” in the UK, compared to “Secret Garden in the city”. After the post-apocalyptic theme of Rumpus 9, this time the party theme was “Pantos vs. Pirates” – of course I enrolled with the pirates, and delivered a “pirate techno set”. I played for just a bit less than one hour as I started late (had tech problems while plugging my gear), but it was enough to take an awesome pirate crowd in a dancefloor bliss state. Welcome to my house. A dreamy, twisted, psychedelic, vintage, uplifting, joyful deep techno house. After all “that noise”, here are 3hrs+ of happy progressive house beats. Sure, I infiltrate everywhere techno, trance and even dubstep, but the overall mood is uplifting and playful, even when it goes into psychedelic sounds. And yes, I dropped a lot of vintage beats, including two or three original tracks from the end of the ’80s and early ’90s. It’s been a lot of fun to mix it all, I hope you’ll have fun dancing to it! I have been inspired to mix deep tech house sounds after following Laurent Garnier in his latest tour, and catching up with gigs and dancing myself to bliss 10 times in one year in Rome, Madrid, Liverpool, Munich, Barcelona and elsewhere, including at festivals like Sonar and the Monegros Desert Festival. I even traveled with friends to Paris for the special night at the Rex Club dedicated by Monsieur Garnier to his fans to celebrate his 25th career anniversary as a dj. It’s been a beautiful epic night, and an amazing party with Laurent Garnier who mixed nonstop for more than 8 hours. That’s my boy. This playlist includes many tracks Laurent Garnier has been playing at his recent gigs. Thanks Maestro, and happy anniversary again!
