Nowhere 2019 Live: Knotweed / DMT Tribute at Garden of Joy
Another one of my live DJ sets at Nowhere 2019: this one was on Saturday night, for the closing party of the Garden of Joy, with their mighty Funktion One sound system, and a constant crowded dancefloor. Loved it. I played a 3 hours DJ set, and I decided to dedicate the first half of it to one of my favorite underground techno artist and label, and also a friend and a fellow member of the Garden of Joy family: the Belgian techno producer Philippe Petit, and the two record labels of which Philippe is patron and one of the most prolific contributors, Knotweed Records and DMT – Decision Making Theory. The Knotweed / DMT Tribute lasted for more than half an hour, before I moved on towards the closing of the set with a good bang of techno dance. This Dj set is the recording of the tribute part, and ends up mixed into a Boris Brejcha track. Here it is, enjoy and dance. Put your dusty gear on, if you want. The campfire flame in the cover image has not been photoshopped – the flames were actually colourful and psychedelic thanks to a special magic powder I threw in. Monegros Chilled Beats
A new tribute to The Monegros, the beautiful desert area in Spain that I have just left, after being a resident for a couple of years. The 45 tunes in this mix are the tracks I have been mostly listening to during my last Monegros summer – chilled, progressive beats that are very, very dance-oriented. This mix includes my first mash-up of the ’90s Ibiza chillout classic “3.2” by Humate (Bedrock Ambient Remix), which has been the inspiration for my recent production of a rework of the Balearic classic, Three Point Three (Infinite Burningmax Rework). Burningmax Remix :: Three Point Three (Burningmax Infinite Rework)
Bedrock’s Ambient Remix of Humate’s 3.2 is a classic massive chilled tune from 90’s Ibiza “balearic” club culture. I recently bumped into this track a couple of times in the same day, so I decided to “drop it” in a recent chillout mix, by slowing it down a lot, and mashing it up with loops and beats from other three tracks: “The Divine” by Aphrohead, “Philharmonic (Definition Remix)” by Alex Flatner + Lopazz, and “Manaka” by Canna. I loved the outcome, so I’ve decided to work on this track a bit more, throwing in additional layers of beats and sounds using MASCHINE’s loop base – all mashed up and remixed on Traktor S4. The result is a groovier version of 3.2 – introducing “Three Point Three (Infinite Burningmax Rework)”. Enjoy! Burningmax Live @ Nowhere 2016 :: Vintage Techno Rave
Are you ready to go back in the days? Not just the Nowhere days, I mean the real deal of the halcyon days of techno. So here we go, here is your time machine. Check out another of my Nowhere 2016’s DJ sets from the Garden of Joy’s residency, a set almost completely played with massive tunes from… last century! True, you’ll hear (and dance to) some of the best underground hits from the ’90s, early 2000, and a few tunes also from the ’80s. As I said, the halcyon days of old geezer ravers like me. I always drop the occasional classic tune (or loop) in my DJ sets, but I’ve been dreaming to play an entire set with classic hits from back in the days for a while, and I finally did it last summer at Nowhere. You’ll be hearing and dancing to some classics from early Detroit techno and Berlin underground (meaning Tresor, not Berghain), French techno from the illegal raves days, acid house ranging from Chicago to Manchester, and even some good old “logical progression” drum’n’bass. The Nowhere festival has now consolidated Acid Friday as a tradition on the Friday of the week-long event. On Acid Friday all art, workshop, altered consciousness and of course music get a psychedelic spin. Being a resident at the Funktion One-propelled theme camp (barrio) Garden of Joy, I have been embracing over the last years Acid Friday with a DJ performance focused on delivering psychedelic beats for our dancefloor. Check out my Nowhere 2016’s acid night 3hrs+ DJ set that started at 4AM and ended up past 7AM. I kicked off with some massive trippy techno, then moved into all kind of acid and drug-inspired deep house and bass music, and eventually “came down” on mellow psychedelic notes as the sun was coming up – also because all psychedelic trips must come to an end, otherwise they turn into bad trips… =) Enjoy this dancefloor trip!!! Burningmax :: The F Trilogy
Burningmax presents: The F Trilogy I haven’t played much live this year, but I’ve been stacking up tons of massive tunes. Last month I figured out that I’ve been listening to plenty of great music that I’ve never shared with anybody else, and what’s worst is that I didn’t even tried to pass it on decks. So I said “Fuck it, let’s empty the summer crates on Traktor and see what happens”. What happened was that the selection alone took almost an entire month… and I ended up with three different mix, even if more than 90% of the tunes didn’t made the final selection. Bummer. Anyway, there’s enough music to keep everybody happy: 4 hours of relaxing electronica, 2 hours of uplifting dance music, and further 90 minutes of massive beats – music for all tastes! Since the whole idea started with a “Fuck it, let’s do it” (without the hypocrisy of the asterisks), the decision about the name of this multiple studio DJ set was immediate: introducing Burningmax’s F Trilogy: Chill the Fuck Out, Shut the Fuck Up and Dance, Fuck Off and Rave. Burningmax Remixes :: Caribou’s Sun
A new remix from the Burningmax Studios, and this time “the victim” is a classic tune from Caribou, Sun. The remix starts “almost” as the original track, with a few added loops in the background, until it reach a crossover point with the remix of the same track from Altrice’s “Only What You Gave Me” Remix, which is where I kick in with a full arsenal of loops, to go epic. I hope you like my take on this classic of electronica… =) Note: I had to go through a lot to be able to share this. SoundCloud removed it at first, saying there was a copyrigth infringement, even if I was clearly stating that it was a remix, and that all the rights go to the respective owners. MixCloud didn’t want the tune, as it is “too short” to be a podcast… grrrr… so I had to make a YouTube video (with further loss of sound quality). Burningmax Live :: 2015 Barcelona Burning Bash :: Rave
My three DJ sets at the Barcelona Burning Bash Weekend (also and even better known as BBB) are immediately available online by popular demand. Over the last months, while I have been recording all my DJ sets, I never had the time to actually timecode them, upload them to MixCloud, and create the relative blog posts. But this time here they are, merely one week after the event, and all three of them! So here we go, a deep techno set with some rave, old school moments, one morning dance set for a crowd who still wanted to keep grooving, and a sweet afternoon set in the sun by a pool – all in the same blog post, for faster sharing! One technical note: since we had some problens with acoustics at the main stage of BBB, the sets played there have very little bass – I guess you can fix that manually by pumping the bass up in your device. The poolside set has a more balanced sound, and very chilly dance tunes. Third mixdeck in the trilogy series I dedicated to the powerful sound of the Barcelona-based independent label Suara Music, and here we go with another cat cover. After the Groovy Wild Catz and the Acid Catz mixdeck, it’s now time to explore the nu-disco and funky soul of Suara, with a selection that I’m sure will make you dance like it’s 1979 – or 1999 – or better said 2013, since the Suara sound it’s always infused with a very contemporary massive bass and techno beat, even when they go disco and funky! With this mixdeck I officially close my trilogy tribute to Suara Music, meaning that starting from the next mix there will be a larger variety of labels included in my mixdecks. Burningmax Live 17 :: London Decompression 2012 (Casualties On The Dancefloor)
It took me a month to finally be able to publish the recording on my closing DJ set at London Decompression 2012. The reason is that my laptop died just a couple of days after the set, and my poor baby has been in the hospital (Apple assistance) until yesterday! A month and 420 Euro later (hey! 420 again!) I finally got it back. And here we are! The title Casualties on the Dancefloor came up while working on the London Decom playlist. “Really? Am I really going for remixed hardcore punk? Jeeee… I’m gonna make some casualties, this is pretty violent…“, but I decided to go for it anyway! I guess this has been the darkest and most violent sound I played live since I dj – I mean, the hard techno or overnoisy track every now and then or the super acid sets are part of the classic trademark sound of Burningmax live, but this is the first time I do a 1 hour 30 minutes set that can make your ears bleed. And I liked it, and people on the dancefloor too. I underestimated the level of aural resistance of the Decom crowd – they actually loved it and neverfuckingstop danced until the end at 6AM, leaving no casualties on the dancefloor at all! Sweet! Burningmix 10 :: Groovy Smoky Sweaty And Pretty Promiscuous Beats
Forget ambient, and welcome to my house. Well, more tech-infused house (not tech-house) than proper house music, but fun anyway. Add several techno twists and loops, a deep bass and a couple of eyeblinks to dubstep grooves, et voilà! It even gets a bit acid towards the end… I promise this will get your dancefloor pretty sweaty and promiscuous, if you play it to the right crowd. Can’t wait to play these sounds at 3-4PM DJ sets under the desert sun of Burning Man or Nowhere – where it all gets seriously groovy, sweaty and definitely promiscuous – but I guess this sound will work also at any other party, and it’s also good for night sessions.
